Let's work together to make the world a better place!

Eley, as a manufacturing company has recently obtained the ISO 14064 Certification (GHG - Greenhouse Gas Emissions), becoming a Carbon Neutral Company.

The ISO 14064 standard is a family of standards aimed at assessing, managing and certifying the greenhouse gas emissions of organisations. This certification gives us the opportunity to keep under control the so-called Greenhouse Gases, which normally all organisations emit (even living beings are small emitters of greenhouse gases) and to set in motion projects to reduce or eliminate them, especially in emerging countries.

The carbon footprint is a measure that expresses in CO2, the total greenhouse gas emissions emitted in the life cycle phases of a product (creation/processing/production/transportation/consumption/end of life), calculating its polluting impact.

This has been achieved through a combination of targeted actions to improve our processes, lifestyles and energy sources with a view to eco-sustainability.

We have chosen to use 100% renewable energy from photovoltaic panels and clean energy projects for our business and production activities to reduce and totally offset CO2 emissions.

UKRAINE: waste HEAP Ukraine

Ukraine is ranked 1st in Europe and 8th in the world for geological reserves of hard coal. This production has been carried out mainly through mines for almost 300 years. In the Donetsk Basin there is one of the largest coal deposits in the world. The first project our company has chosen to support is the redevelopment of the Ukrainian Donbass region.

The result of continuous extraction from coal mines is the formation of coal rock deposits - called heaps. These heaps can lead to fire phenomena with subsequent spread of smoke, thus violating the environmental and economic balance of the mining areas of Donbass, causing an altered ecological situation, affecting the state of the atmosphere, soil, water, bringing enormous damage to the health and life of people as well as animals and plants.

The project we are supporting involves a complete dismantling of the landfill site of "Azovtreyd" Ltd. During the dismantling of the landfill, the rock mass will be removed with special equipment for further processing to obtain pure coal for boilers, which can then be used as fuel. Thus, the rock mass of the landfill will be completely transformed back into coal.

The aim of the project is to eliminate spontaneous combustion in the landfill and to obtain additional coal from the mining residues.

Eley and consequently Sendo, by supporting this project for the redevelopment of the Ukrainian region of Donbass, has contributed to the achievement of some of the sustainable development goals for a better future, a target set by the UN for 2030.

Specifically, we have contributed to:

  • ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all;
  • taking urgent measures to combat climate change and its consequences;
  • conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development;
  • halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

INDIA: A greener India

The second project that Eley and consequently Sendo has chosen to support in offsetting its carbon footprint is building a greener India through the use of innovative and sustainable products.

In this second project, carbon offsetting has taken the form of a collaboration with an Indian agri-food company, a leader in the sustainable production of palm oil.

This project consists of sponsoring the purchase of a generator, which enables the management of waste from the shells and clusters of palm fruits, allowing steam and electricity to be obtained for use in the palm oil production facilities themselves. In this way, the farm uses energy from so-called biomass to meet its energy needs and reduce its dependence on imports.

The plant helps to conserve local resources, reduce pressure on the environment and ensure better health for the population.

Palm oil, which is used as a raw material in the food and cosmetics industry, is thus managed and processed sustainably.

The company also adopts a virtuous behaviour in support of the local community, as 100% of its employees come from the area where the company is located.  The company offers its employees a medical benefits programme with hospitalisation support, health insurance, a living allowance and guarantees part-time work for women after maternity leave.

Employees can also benefit from a scholarship for up to one child. The company offers continuous skills upgrading and learning opportunities through structured career discussions and individual development plans.

By supporting this project, Eley and Sendo have contributed to the following UN goals for a better future

  • end poverty in all its forms, everywhere;
  • end hunger, ensure food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture;
  • ensuring inclusive education for all and promoting fair and quality lifelong learning opportunities;
  • ensure the availability of affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy services for all;
  • promote inclusive, sustained and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all;
  • build strong infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation.

We believe that by working together to bring about positive change, we can slowly improve everyone's way of life to make the world a better place.
